That Weird Title, This Weird Blog

So the title of this blog is...kinda melodramatic and probably makes you wonder what the blog is even about. Essentially, this is just a blog filled with stories of five different kids and their lives. Fears, social awkwardness, and an overdose of sarcasm are included. Also, there are just normal moments: average achievements like not failing a class. Each of these kids are technically fictional, but really they're all shadows of us (the authors) in some way.

Which is where the title comes from obviously. Hmm, should I have left that as subtle subtext?

Anyways, by us, I mean me and the friends I'm writing the blog with. (I came up with the idea originally and then roped them along because, TRUE FRIENDSHIP.) We're just kids trying something new through the eyes of these characters we've created. These kids are shadows of what is happening in our lives or even what we wish would happen. Honestly, in some ways, none of this blog is fictional because it's always exploring the different things we wish we could do and sometimes it’s actually really crazy/stupid things we’ve actually done.

It's safe to say that all of the characters and their stories were inspired by events in real life. It's just incredibly scary to say what is true. When things you think or want are fictional, it's easier to brush them off, easier to share them. Writing really does feel like giving some of myself away, which is why it’s always scared me, but at least I’m kind of conquering this fear. Yeah, it’s by hiding behind fictional people, but still.

I’m about to get a little deep, so here’s your life jacket. Rules are on the back in black.

I could’ve just written a blog about myself and it probably would’ve been a lot less complicated than a fictional one about five different kids with five different lives and five different personalities. But I didn’t for three reasons:

1. Because it’s fun to just explore the possibilities. For me, it’s like having the ability to visit alternate universe with different versions of myself, as all of the five characters share some of my qualities. And it’s not just fun, it actually helps me figure out who I am or who I could be. It’s a lot easier to admit stuff, like my own flaws, by stuffing them in another character. It’s just easier to be honest. Normally when I write it’s either in celebration of what my life is like now or a desperate attempt to escape it, so that’s why there are five different people.

Five different fire escapes.

Most of all, I feel free. I'm not restricted by all the big restrictions of like: wealth (or lack thereof), race, age, gender, or even homework.

2. Secondly, it’s important for me to try and see things from another perspective, which is what writing from different people helps with. You know, if everyone on the Internet strove to create more of a community, it probably be really interesting. It’s crazy how you can feel even more alone and divided when you’re connected to millions of people. But back to the point, writing out of my comfort zone really helps me be more empathetic and less likely to rant in the Youtube comment section.

3. Lastly, it’s absolutely terrifying to share these thoughts and events with other people so the fictional element is like my safety blanket. The Internet may help you be anonymous but getting judged is still intimidating. I mean you might not know who I am, but I do.

At the end of the day, we’re just kids trying to create a character’s with fun and interesting stories that could have happened to anyone. It’s kinda scary. I mean I’m barely able to work at a Chick-fil-a (but please hire me anyways). Sure, a job would be great, but I can’t even pay for the not-free version of Wix.

Which is why I have Patreon!

HAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah not really… Pretty sure that one of those “have to be 18” things.

I can't really make any promises on this blog, maybe sometimes you'll find it funny and interesting and maybe sometimes you won't. The goal is just to make it relatable, even if you think, "Yup, this is about as boring as last week felt."

And I think I’m going to end on that weird note, I hope you aren’t too freaked out and read tomorrow’s post.
